Hot take: The Metaverse goes nowhere without VR.

Just saw a post regarding some German guy saying that museums will all have a virtual counterpart and while I agree I’m not hopeful on the idea until Virtual reality is in a better place.

I love the idea of the metaverse and NFT’s etc. My problem is that I don’t really understand the appeal in pulling up their website or app and using my computer to navigate through this digital world. Using the directional keys to move around etc. How does it make it any different from minecraft or roblox? It’s just another computer game. The metaverse is supposed to be our digital world and it’s nothing more than a few inputs on a keyboard?

This is where VR comes in. VR itself isn’t that great right now. Sure, there are a few projects that I really believe that are devoted to the development of a commercial Metaverse in which users can buy and sell items, interact socially, and create their own realities like space-metaverse (currently on alpha stage) but there’s still a lot of work to be done. Forget looking at your screen for calls, think of immersive environments like an amphitheater to present your ideas. Space has all these and imo it can be a gamechanger of how we communicate, travel, and do shopping in the future. Imagine being able to walk through the MOMA or the Guggenheim in VR? Fly around the sky in your 50k digital plane NFT? Walk on the pyramids? That’s where I think the appeal will be. I think we’re still years away from our first proper introduction to the metaverse but I’m excited about projects with actual use cases like Space. Thanks for reading my rant.
